Using Facebook Chat & iChat Together To anyone who ever uses Facebook Chat at all and owns a Mac, this might interest you somewhat. Most of your probably already know this, but it’s news to me! I guess since February of this year, you can now use the Facebook Chat seamlessly from inside iChat and talk to your Facebook friends without being logged into the actual Facebook site! Here’s how to set it up: Launch iChat From iChat, select the iChat menu and scroll down to “Preferences” Click on the “Accounts” tab icon and click the “+” sign in the corner to add a new account In the “Account Type” menu, select “Jabber” to enter information relative to your Facebook account Enter your Facebook Username (your username is in your vanity url, facebook.com/your_name) Enter the password to your Facebook account Now under the “Server Options” settings, enter the server as ‘chat.facebook.com’ and set the port as: 5222 Click “Done” And you’re done! iChat will load your Facebook Chat buddy list in a window identical to your normal iChat buddy list. AND! If you’ve enabled the feature to “Collect chats into a single window”, when you start a conversation with someone on Facebook Chat it’ll get added to your main conversation window for convenience. There are some people (mainly people who live in Argentina) who don’t use AIM at all. I can only chat with them through Facebook. This just simplifies everything and brings it all together in a way that all Apple users will appreciate. Enjoy!
