aprilavica: This is Grace and Elle. Elle (the younger sister) is a Riley Kid with the most sweet and comical spirit. Her huge love for Michael Jackson must also be mentioned :) Indiana University Dance Marathon officially began this Friday at 8pm! For those of you who don’t know, IUDM is an event that raises money and hope for children who are patients at Riley Children’s Hospital and specifically, the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center. Over the past 19 years, IUDM has raised over $7 million for Riley. This event is run entirely by students and is the second largest student organization in the nation. We work all year round to raise funds and it all comes together at this 36 hour event where every student goes without sleep and sitting; exercising the motto, “We dance because we can and we stand for those who can’t.” This is my second year with IUDM. The strength and heart of these Riley children have changed my life and have become a daily inspiration to me. I feel blessed that this is such a big part of my life. From day one (five years ago) when I first met her, she began inspiring me and continues to do so on a daily basis. With a heart of gold she can always be found putting the needs of others before her own. This marathon is exhausting, I’ve never gotten a chance to participate but from watching the live feed and hearing countless stories about it, I have a great respect for all who get involved.
