This is Molly Hess. Molly was born four months premature. She was so tiny that her father’s wedding ring would fit all the way up to her shoulder. Along with her small and dangerous size, her trachea had not developed to reach her vocal chords, preventing her from ever being able to speak. When I met Molly one year ago, she was signing…today, she is speaking. With the help of Riley Hospital and inexplicable grace, she was given a voice this past February when cartilage from her ribs were taken out to extend her trachea.
Molly, her amazing parents and baby brother, Jonah, became my inspiration in the toughest moments of being a dancer at last years IUDM. When I saw Molly again today and heard her update….better yet, heard her VOICE, I fell to pieces. Her story and all of the other stories are why I am here today.
I dance for Molly.
