Today’s WWDC A Huge Success: iTunes Match? “Yes, Please!”
Who can say no to this? I mean, really.
If you want all the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution. It lets you store your entire collection, including music you’ve ripped from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. For just $24.99 a year.
Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to your iCloud library for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 18 million songs in the iTunes Store, most of your music is probably already in iCloud. All you have to upload is what iTunes can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. And all the music iTunes matches plays back at 256-Kbps iTunes Plus quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.
Honestly, from Lion (multi-touch gestures, full screen apps, Mission Control, Mac App Store, Launchpad, auto save and versions, the new: Mail, iCal and Address Book apps), to iOS 5 (Notification Center, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, camera enhancements, Photos editing enhancements, being PC-free), to the incredible iCloud (iTunes in the Cloud, Photostream, automatic backing up of Apps, Books, Documents and backup, as well as syncing automatically all your Contacts, Calendars and Mail — for free).
I’m excited for Lion to come out in July, and iOS 5 and iCloud in the Fall. Apple has done it again.
If any of that seemed the least bit interesting to you, you should just watch the entire WWDC 2011 Keynote Presentation from this morning.

New Case For All You Hipsta’s
If you’re a big fan of Hipstamatic, then you may be please to know that case maker Agent 18 and Hipstamatic app developer Synthetic have teamed up to create the HipstaCase 100 for both the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. The HipstaCase 100 brings the look of a plastic cameras from the 80s into a case that will give your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G that retro look and feel. The HipstaCase 100 includes the following features:
- The HipstaCase: A one piece, snap on case that provides premium protection for the iPhone 4 or iPod touch
- The Tripod Adapter: A universal tripod adapter that slips into a hidden front slot on the case and easily mounts onto any standard camera tripod for steady and level photo taking.
- The Wrist Lanyard: A high quality, nylon lanyard designed to seamlessly attach to the HipstaCase in either a left or right handed position. Allows the user quick and secure access for photos and videos.
The HipstaCase is currently priced at $39.95 USD [which I think is a little over priced], and is available direct from the HipstaMart website, however a recent “hands on review” over at The Unofficial Apple Weblog, does not show this case in a good light, with reviewer Victor Agreda, Jr. saying of the case, “It’s overpriced at $40 considering that the case offers little more than a loose camera mount and some style to your naked iPhone.”

Today is a big day for a lot of people.
Beginning February 10, the phone that changed everything will be available on both AT&T and Verizon Wireless in the United States. Qualified Verizon Wireless customers will also have the exclusive opportunity to pre-order iPhone 4 online on February 3, ahead of general availability.
Whichever network you choose, you’ll get FaceTime video calling, the high-resolution Retina display, a 5-megapixel camera, HD video recording, long battery life, and all the other great features of iPhone 4.
This is going to be so cool.
Apple today announced that the Mac App Store has opened for business with over 1,000 apps available at launch. The Mac App Store requires Mac OS X 10.6.6, which is now available for download via Software Update.

Using Facebook Chat & iChat Together
To anyone who ever uses Facebook Chat at all and owns a Mac, this might interest you somewhat.
Most of your probably already know this, but it’s news to me! I guess since February of this year, you can now use the Facebook Chat seamlessly from inside iChat and talk to your Facebook friends without being logged into the actual Facebook site!
Here’s how to set it up:
- Launch iChat
- From iChat, select the iChat menu and scroll down to “Preferences”
- Click on the “Accounts” tab icon and click the “+” sign in the corner to add a new account
- In the “Account Type” menu, select “Jabber” to enter information relative to your Facebook account
- Enter your Facebook Username (your username is in your vanity url, facebook.com/your_name)
- Enter the password to your Facebook account
- Now under the “Server Options” settings, enter the server as ‘chat.facebook.com’ and set the port as: 5222
- Click “Done”
And you’re done!
iChat will load your Facebook Chat buddy list in a window identical to your normal iChat buddy list.
AND! If you’ve enabled the feature to “Collect chats into a single window”, when you start a conversation with someone on Facebook Chat it’ll get added to your main conversation window for convenience.
There are some people (mainly people who live in Argentina) who don’t use AIM at all. I can only chat with them through Facebook. This just simplifies everything and brings it all together in a way that all Apple users will appreciate. Enjoy!
My co-workers are estimating that there are 1,000+ people in line now waiting to get their hands on an iPhone 4.
The doors have now opened and there is a ton of clapping and cheering.
April and I are minutes away from activating our new iPhones. The (almost) 10 hour wait has proven to be successful!
1 hour and 30 minutes left until the doors of Apple open and the iPhone 4 launch is official on the West Coast.
There are easily over 450+ people here now with more and more people showing up by the minute.
I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s absolutely insane. There are men in business suits vulturing the front area of the line asking everyone and anyone what price they want for their spot in line. They reek of jealousy. (Edit: That man just bought a guy’s spot in line for $120 dollars! WHAT?!)
A handful of my old co-workers woke April and I up with coffee and Jack In The Box breakfast sandwiches. (So freaking thoughtful!) They cheered us on for our wait as they headed inside to begin their training on the iPhone 4 before doors open. The black curtain remains in place and the line hasn’t been divided yet between people who have reserved their iPhone 4 and those who are here on a first-come-first-serve basis like April and I. We’ve held on to numbers 22 and 23 in line. — Stay tuned!
The iPhone 4 comes out in 9 hours and 41 minutes.
April and I are camping out overnight at the Apple store to get our hands on 32GB black models. There are already 38 people in line. This is going to be absolutely insane.
I didn’t think I was going to be able to get one before we left for tour! But we shall see…
Let the Apple fanboy madness begin!
Apple will begin preorders for the iPhone 4 tomorrow, June 15.
I’ve definitely made up my mind about getting one. I’m going to get the black 32GB model. My order will be waiting for me at the Apple store on June 24. Ironically, this is the day right before we leave for tour!
Questions:
- Who else is going to preorder? What capacity/color are you going to get?
- If you’re not getting an iPhone 4, why not?
By the way, what have you done that’s so great? Do you create anything, or just criticize others work and belittle their motivations?
