William Fitzsimmons - Let You Break (feat. Julia Stone)

To cut out the figure
The grounding of this
Let melancholic drown

To greener reminders
Of better pastures
You’re beautiful and found

I love the new Will Fitz record. The man has done it again.

Rosi Golan - Hazy (feat. William Fitzsimmons)

What if I fall and hurt myself?
Would you know how to fix me?
What if I went and lost myself?
Would you know where to find me?
If I forgot who I am, would you please remind me?

Oh, cause without you things go hazy.

William Fitzsimmons - “I Kissed A Girl” (Katy Perry cover) from his forthcoming album, Derivatives due to be digitally released on May 4th.

On his latest album, Derivatives, former therapist and current folk singer/songwriter William Fitzsimmons is re-imagining several tracks off his debut record, The Sparrow And The Crow. Originally heartfelt reflections on his crumbling marriage and subsequent divorce, the songs from The Sparrow are getting an electronic makeover, replete with infectious beats and multi-layered synths. Despite its new upbeat tone, Fitzsimmons insists that it remains an emotional and heartfelt record at its core. “I started to learn that people weren’t experiencing these songs with the same measure of darkness,” he tells CMJ. “For some reason, they were hearing a certain amount of hope in them, and to be honest, that began to change the way I understood them myself. So I wanted a way to hear the songs in that more positivistic way.”

By remixing the songs and adding other elements (such as a choir), Fitzsimmons was able to achieve the optimistic sound that his fans had heard. ” When I hear them it doesn’t take away the somber affectivity I felt when I wrote them,” he says, “but it does help me to accept that I don’t have to stay in the same place that I was.” Among the many gutsy moves he takes on the album is his own rendition of the Katy Perry hit “I Kissed A Girl,” which he covered “to see what the tune would be like with that dark undertone as a more obvious context.”
